St. Peter's Episcopal Church

The Third set of Windows shows the Presentation in the Temple (C.E. Kempe).

To the left are the Virgin Mary and St. Joseph with Anna the Prophetess, who also waited in the Temple for the coming of Messiah. St. Joseph holds two turtle doves in his hand, “To offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, a pair of turtle doves.” (St. Luke 2:24). The empty cage is on the floor. Above them in a small insert is David with the head of Goliath which signifies that Mary was of the House of David.

To the right is Simeon “a just and devout man” (St. Luke 2:25) his lifelong waiting for Messiah ended holding the Infant Jesus. Above him are the Latin words “Nunc Dimittis servuum tuum: (“Now let thy servant depart in peace”).

This window is dedicated to the Glory of God and in loving memory of Franklin House (1825-1906) by members of the Beebe Family, whose quarry provided the stone used in the building the present church.
